WARNING: Contains Graphic Photo

A 39-year old Nigerian woman has burnt a girl’s thighs with hot iron after accusing her of stealing her N1,000 at Oshodi area of Lagos State. The woman, Mrs. Kudirat Isekolowo, who lives at Igbehinadun area of Oshodi, said she did not know what came over her when she carried out the act.
MRS
The mother of three was arrested by officials of the Lagos State Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) and Esther Child Right Foundation and brought to the Lagos State Government Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
Traders were close to tears at Oshodi Market where the woman sells clothes, when they saw how the thighs of the 15-year old girl [name withheld] was seriously burnt, leaving permanent deep scars on her body.
The little girl was sent by her parents, who live at Agege area of Lagos, to live with Isekolowo and serve as apprentice in her clothing shop. She started living with her in November 2012.
At the WAPA Ministry, Alausa, there was anger when government officials saw the deep wounds on the girl’s body, while they described the woman as extremely wicked and needed to be punished severely.
Apart from the deep wounds on her thighs, there are also wounds all over her body, occasioned by constant beating and maltreatment.
According to the girl, Kudirat accused her of stealing her N1,000 last week, but she denied stealing the money.
She said the woman plugged a pressing iron and made sure it was very hot and pressed it on her two thighs and one of her hands, leaving deep wounds on her body.
“I am not the one who stole the N1,000. She said I took it and I denied it. She plugged iron and pressed it on my two thighs. My parents live in Agege, they asked me to live with her and learn how to sell clothes as they don’t have money,” she explained.
On why there were other wounds all over her body, she said Kudirat usually beat her with wire. Kudirat admitted carrying out the act, saying that the girl stole her N1,000.
“She stole my N1,000 last week and I don’t know what came over me. I know what I did is bad. I don’t know what happened to me when I did it,” she said.
Kudirat wept when she knew that she could go to jail for her wicked act. Even her close friends who came with her felt very bad when they saw the degree of damage to the girl’s thighs.
Executive Director, Esther Child Right Foundation, Mrs Esther Ogwu said she got a call from the founder of Compassionate Women Initiative, Mrs. Mary Olasupo, about a woman who burnt the thighs of a little girl with hot iron.
“We moved in immediately with the WAPA officials and arrested her and brought her to Alausa. At Oshodi market where we arrested her, traders were screaming when they saw the wound in the girl’s body,” she explained.
Esther said it is now left for the state government to prosecute her in accordance with the child right’s law to serve as a deterrent to others.
According to Mary, the founder, Compassionate Women Initiative, “a woman called me some days ago to intimate me about the incident. She told me that a woman had an apprentice, whom she accused of stealing her N1,000 and then used hot iron to burn her two thighs. That was when I called Esther Child Right Foundation for help and they came.”
Officials of the state government have vowed that the woman would be prosecuted and be made to pay for her callous act.

CONTROVERSY! I’m not dating Pasuma – Biodun Okeowo

Curvaceous actress, Biodun Okeowo, who hit the limelight in the flick, Tolani Oshirin, is one of the glamorous actresses rocking the Yoruba  movie sector at the moment with her uncommon talent and irresistible sex appeal. Apart from featuring in many films, she has also made her mark as a producer  with seven films to her credit.
On December 15, 2012 she premiered her much talked about movie, Omo Butty (Pampered Child), where she brought Fuji musician, Wasia Alabi, popularly known as Pasuma to thrill the guests. Unfortunately, her action was misinterpreted, as she is romantically linked to the Fuji star. In this exclusive interview, she opens up on her relationship with Pasuma. She also talks about her career, her lifestyle, marriage and sex . Enjoy:
How did your journey into the movie industry begin?
I started acting as far back as 2006. I started training with the Ray Eyiwunmi Organisation and since then, I have been on my own.
What made you choose acting as a career?
Acting has been an integral part of my being.I have always loved the practitioners in the movie industry. Even when I was very young, I was part of the drama group in my Church. It was from there, I started sharpening my talent in acting. The Eyiwunmi Organisation later became the platform through which I launched myself into the movie world and so far, I thank God for my humble achievements. Besides, What I studied in school had a bit of theatrical touch. I studied Communication Arts from Lagos State University and I guess that helped in some ways.

*Biodun
So far, would you say, acting has been good to you?
Yes, acting has been good to me. It has opened doors for me. It has also brought favour to me in some quarters.
They say, there are caucuses in the Yoruba  movie industry such as the Odunfa caucus, The Abeokuta crew and the rest. Which one of these groups do you belong to?
Like I said before, I  emerged from the  Ray Eyiwunmi Organisatiom. But now, I’m a freelance actress.
What movie gave you, your  break?
“Tolani Osinrin” gave me my break and  I was happy playing a major role for the first time in my own movie.
Which  movie has been most challenging to you and why?
I’ve not been challenged theatrically. But I’m looking forward to having one.
Why  are you not featuring in English?
I’m not afraid of delving into the  English sector but the thing is, I’ve not been invited or given the opportunity but if the opportunity surfaces I’ll gladly accept. At my level now, you don’t expect me to be begging for a role, do you?
What do you consider before taking up a role or accepting a script and have you ever had to reject a script and why?
Yes, first and foremost I look at the  storyline. Second, the plot and third, the  director.  Yep, I’ve rejected scripts. I reject scripts that are not well baked and perfectly detailed. That is why I don’t feature in anyhow movies. I’ve made such mistakes in the  past and it really affected me. But Glory be to God that brought me back on my feet. So now I don’t just act all movies. I scrutinise scripts very well before taking them on.
What are the challenges of being an actress and a producer at the same time?
When I talk about films I have featured in, I have lost count but on my own I have  produced seven movies. Starting with ‘Tolani Oshirin’, ‘Okanjua’, ‘Oke Irapada’  and others. Producing one movie in a year, it’s so tasking being an actress and a producer at the same time. Because you have to deal with several different issues at the same time. Combining the  two, means one needs to contend with monetary issues and good interpretation  of roles,to make the production a successful one.
Which of your movies has been most successful and why?
Oh, it is very hard for me to say because all the films produced by me are good but if I have to really stick my neck out I’ll give it to ‘Ife Nsiere’ (Love is Crazy) but I truly believe my best is yet to come.  I  think people love ‘Ife N Siere’ because it deals with contemporary  issue of lesbianism.
What inspired your doing ‘Ife Nsiere (Love is Crazy)’ and what is your response to some criticising the film as being a little bit raw?
I got the  inspiration to write Ife Nsiere’ because lesbianism has become the  order of the  day which is fast gaining ground to the  detriment of this generation. My aim really is  to preach against this Sodomic act and also to tell people that not all that glitters is gold. The movie is not raw. And if viewers believe so, we did it to pass the message clearly and because acting is make-believe, we have to make  it real and believable.
I want people to know that there’s no profit in lesbianism. I want to also fault this common saying that love is crazy; love’s not crazy, neither is it blind. I want people to also know that marriage is meant to be preserved. House wives shouldn’t just jump to conclusion when, maybe, they see lipstick stains on their husband’s clothes and think that he’s had something to do with another woman.
What are you working on now and what is the story?
Presently, I’ve just shot ‘Omo Butty(Pampered Child)’ and it has even been premiered and is making tour of cinemas right now and it is expected to remain a big hit throughout the first part of 2013. I will be going on location soon to shoot another movie to be called  ‘Ore (Friends)’. ‘Omo Butty’ is about a spoilt child.
Are you in any relationship and are you considering getting married?
Yes, I am in a very serious relationship leading to marriage in the  most quiet way.
What would make you marry a man now, what do you really want in a man after two kids?
Because there’s no glory for a queen who’s got no king. Our society doesn’t accept an unmarried woman as a responsible woman. God knows his plan for me and what’s the  best for me in terms of the  type of man to marry. I am a woman and every woman needs a man to be complete.
What’s your idea of sex generally? As a beautiful woman you must be getting so much pressure?
Sex is good, and it should only be done between married people because sex is an oath. Its not something that should be done with numerous partners or done for the  fun of it. It is like marriage, sacred and pure. As for the pressure, may be temptations will come your way but it is left to the woman to control herself and be who she really wants to be without compromising her beliefs.
There is a whisper of a gist that something of a hot romance is brewing between you and Pasuma?
Where did that emanate from? It is laughable. I laugh because people are it again. Pasuma is a brother, a friend, and a very nice person to me too. Pasuma knows my man very well so where did this unscrupulous rumour emanate from that I’m dating him. Can’t people see closeness in different sexes and see it as platonic only? Local mentality is what I’m seeing in such rumour. Please rumour peddlers should go and  find jobs  to do.
What is sexiest about Biodun Okeowo?
Well, being sexy means different things to different people. But I think my shape, especially my hips are the sexiest part of my body.
Is it true that most actresses are flirts and this is largely responsible for their not being able to hold on to  marriages?
Well, I cant speak for others. But Biodun Sofuyi Okeowo is not a flirt. That, I can stand tall to say anywhere.

Police arrest 4 over NNPC pipeline explosion

Lagos -  The Police on Thursday arrested four suspected vandals in Arepo estate of Ogun in connection with the NNPC pipeline explosion on Wednesday.
The arrest was made by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Task Force on Anti-Pipeline Vandalism Unit.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the task force, Mr Friday Ibadin, disclosed this in Lagos.
Ibadin said the explosion started at about 4.30 a.m., stressing that the suspects were arrested while returning from the creek.
“Shortly after the explosion, policemen, led by Sector Commander, Lagos, DSP Onaghise Osayande, cordoned off the area, while they awaited the arrival of fire fighters.
“They extended the search to Konu and Majidun area which is another route to that spot. Some vandals were spotted and ambushed, while others who were coming behind fled.
“Investigation so far shows that the suspects, and others now at large, wanted to waste the effort of the NNPC and frustrate the effort of police.”
“One of the suspects confessed that they simply obeyed the orders of one of their leaders.
“He claimed they learnt that NNPC was mounting a platform close to the creeks and that would be bad business for them.
“It was agreed that they should try and stop them pending when they would have enough supply that they can manage before another spot is discovered.
“On Jan. 22, they sneaked in through the river at about 12 a.m. and fetched few gallons of PMS and while they were leaving, one of the suspects lit a cigarette and threw it at the ruptured part and the fire started again.
“The fire has been extinguished and NNPC would soon commence flow of PMS through the line ,’’ Ibadin noted.
On Jan. 13, fire, caused by suspected vandals, killed more than 30 persons, who had ferried across to the creeks to scoop fuel from a ruptured pipeline.
The explosion on Wednesday at the Arepo axis was the second in two weeks. (NAN)

Remember the 2009 controversial movie, Itohan? It was Cossy Orjiakor‘s introduction to scandals and controversy.

The movie which was produced by Lucky Ewa and directed by Chico Ejiro made headlines not for its campaign against human trafficking but for its many steamy scenes.

Actors like Saheed Balogun, Shan George and Racheal Oniga were also part of the project.

Here is a clip of Cossy in action.

Charles Novia - "My point has been made"

My write-up on my wall a few days ago on fake accents on Nigerian radio and television went viral a couple of days ago. I know I have lots of friends on facebook who are newspaper editors, reporters and columnists. I also have lots of personal bloggers as friends here. I cherish such people. Someone asked me why I'm not writing for any Nigerian Daily for a larger readership.

While I have had such offers, I also know that most of what I put here on my facebook wall reach a wide audience worldwide. And so when I put up a post; I ask myself if I want to be restrained in my opinions or just being blunt.

I always choose the latter because that is first and foremost who I am as a person and also because my primary audience here on my facebook page are used to my style of writing and I don't intend to change that. Here, I am one with my friends and if my opinions move from my wall to the larger world, then it means my friends believe it is worth sharing so as to change a system somewhere.

Why am I saying this? In the past twenty-four hours, almost all the major entertainment and daily blogs have been quoting my 'fake presenters' write-up. And typically, a lot of On Air Personalities are really rattled by it. My phones have not stopped ringing from calls from some who either commend or condemn my opinion and some have gone to twitter to vent their spleen.

I almost was tempted to respond to one of such persons on twitter but thought better of it as it would be pointless; I think my point has been made. Majority of the responses to that post have been in support of my opinion. Which means that lots of Nigerians are really irritated by this trend. I gave an informed opinion.

I don't believe I mentioned names of such 'fake presenters' in my write-up. However, reactions on blogs and cyberspace from readers nationwide have been mentioning names of radio and TV personalities who fall into that category. I never knew it was an endemic problem. Now that we know it is; I do hope the radio stations management have heard and will perhaps re-orientate their presenters.

 Just some food for thought.
